However, it is strongly recommended that learners have experience or a qualification in the aviation sector to gain the maximum benefit from the training content.

The course is structured around eight thematic modules:
1. Introduction to Managing Safely in Airports and Aviation
Fundamental principles of health and safety within the airport environment.
Objectives and scope of the IOSH course.
2. Assessing Risks
Methods for identifying and assessing risks.
Tools and techniques for prioritising actions.
3. Controlling Risks
Preventive and control measures specific to the aviation sector.
Planning and monitoring of corrective actions.
4. Understanding Responsibilities
Legal framework: CAP642 and UK HSE requirements.
Hierarchical and individual responsibilities.
5. Understanding Hazards
Analysis of specific risks: fuel handling, air traffic, ground handling, and airside security.
6. Investigating Incidents and Accidents
Methodology for conducting investigations.
Report writing and lessons learned (feedback process).
7. Measuring Performance
Key health and safety performance indicators.
Continuous improvement and developing a positive safety culture.
8. Human Factors
Understanding human behaviour and error.
Strategies to reduce risks related to fatigue, stress, and workload.
Assessments
Participants must successfully complete two assessments to obtain the IOSH certification:
1. Final Multiple-Choice Test
Duration: 45 minutes
Objective: To assess the theoretical knowledge gained throughout the course.
2. Practical Assessment
Completion of a workplace risk assessment in a professional environment.
Must be submitted within two weeks after the end of the course.
Certification
Upon successful completion of both assessments, participants will receive the official IOSH Managing Safely in Airports and Aviation certificate, which is internationally recognised within the aviation sector.
