The course consists of one central unit (PSM1) divided into four main sections:

PSM1: Process Safety Management

Process Safety Leadership

The role of leadership in shaping a strong safety culture.
Management commitment and effective HSE communication.

Management of Process Risk

Process safety management systems.
Asset management and maintenance strategies.
Safe start-up and shutdown of process plants.
Risk assessment and control in process operations.

Process Safety Hazard Control

Performance standards for safety-critical systems and equipment.
Key hazards and their controls, including:

Chemical reactions,

Bulk storage of hazardous substances,

Fire and explosion prevention.

Fire Protection and Emergency Response

Objectives and key features of emergency plans.
Preparation, communication, and coordination during incidents.

Teaching Methods

Interactive online learning including explanatory videos, case studies, practical exercises, and self-assessment activities.
Learning checks built into the course to confirm understanding before progressing.
Visual learning tools such as mind maps, categorisation tasks, and summarising activities to aid knowledge retention.

Type of assessment: Online multiple-choice examination.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Format: 40 multiple-choice questions covering all sections of the syllabus.
