IOSH Managing Safely® is the flagship course for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). It is an accredited health and safety qualification that delivers essential learning to those in positions of responsibility. This includes the identification, evaluation and control measures associated with workplace risks.

Achieving the IOSH Managing Safely certificate empowers managers in any business to better manage their team, safeguarding their wellbeing and embedding a safe culture in the workplace.

It will help you or your workforce to: 1. Control Hazards 2. Reduce Risk 3. Improve Productivity.

The IOSH Managing Safely® course was developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This globally chartered body provides internationally recognised qualifications that promote high health and safety standards in the workplace.

The IOSH Managing Safely course enables you to implement OHS protocols and manage the risks associated with it, ensuring the well being of your team. You will play a significant role in improving the safety awareness culture and also gain an advantage over anyone holding a managerial position.

Le public ciblé

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely Certificate course is designed for managers and supervisors working in any sector, anywhere in the world.
Any manager, team leader, supervisor, or line manager who wishes to gain a better understanding of their responsibilities in occupational health and safety.
Any individual holding a position of responsibility across all sectors of activity (industry, services, construction, healthcare, public administration, etc.).

Les prérequis

No prerequisites are required. For courses taught in English, a good command of the language is recommended.

The IOSH Managing Safely course is open to all and requires no prior courses or prerequisites.
Although the course is aimed at people in managerial and supervisory positions, experience in these areas is not necessarily required to take the course.

The course is split into eight modules:

Module 1: Introduction to Risk Management

Fundamental principles of health and safety performance.
Moral, legal, and financial reasons for prevention.

Module 2: Risk Assessment

The risk assessment process.
Practical case studies of specific risk analyses.

Module 3: Risk Control

Legal framework and hierarchy of control measures.
Emergency plans, Safe Systems of Work (SSW), and Permits to Work (PTW).

Module 4: Understanding Responsibilities

Civil and criminal duties of employers and managers.
Health and Safety Management Systems (HSMS).

Module 5: Common Workplace Hazards

Risks related to chemical agents, noise, fire, electricity, manual handling, working at height, stress, etc.

Module 6: Accident and Incident Investigation

Differences between accidents and near misses.
Investigation methodology and root cause analysis.
RIDDOR regulations (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).

Module 7: Measuring Performance

Monitoring proactive and reactive indicators.
Internal audits and continuous improvement.

Module 8: Bonus Module – Human Factors

Individual factors (motivation, risk perception, competence).
Organisational factors and safety culture.
Human errors, violations, and prevention.

Exam:

The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management is assessed through a 90-minute online multiple-choice test consisting of 40 questions. Examinations are available on a monthly basis.

Assessment Methods:

The assessment consists of two mandatory components:

1. Knowledge Test (Multiple Choice)

Duration: 45 minutes – 30 questions (multiple choice, true/false, and short-answer questions).
Minimum pass mark: 36 out of 60.

2. Practical Assessment – Workplace Risk Assessment

Completion of a full risk assessment in a real work environment.
Submission deadline: within 2 weeks after the end of the course.
Minimum pass mark: 23 out of 38.

Successful completion of both assessments leads to the award of the IOSH Managing Safely® Certificate.

Validation and Certification:

Upon completion of the training and verification by IOSH:

Award of the international IOSH Managing Safely® certificate (downloadable via the IOSH portal).
The certification is recognized in more than 80 countries worldwide.

The program e-learning is delivered as a self-paced without an instructor. Participants may progress at their own pace once enrolled. Access provided to the platform is 6 months.
